Maybe I'm just cheesy, but coated moissanite colors just tickle my brain the right way. That means that rather than the color running throughout the stone, a coating was applied to a colorless stone to give the appearance of color. Usually, this coating is applied to just the bottom of the stone, which reflects up through the face and creates the illusion that the color is inside of the stone. The coating can wear away with high temperatures and surface damage\/abrasion, and should never be cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner or steam to preserve the effect. Damaged coating typically gives the effect of flaking\/peeling off, and usually first become noticeable on the edges of the stone's facets.
